Nope, this is not our day job. However, no matter what you do, be it work, or general slacking, you have to eat. Many people over the last year and half or so have when visiting have asked myself and Alex where to eat, boy, did they get an earful. Fortunately most people seem to appreciate our overbearing input, some have remarked, “you guys should be food critics”. Well fear not mortal citizens, now we are! Whether you like it or not. So what qualifies myself, Anthony, and my friend, Alex, to speak on so many levels about food, culture, and whiskey you may ask. Well that’s none of your business, but here it goes anyway.
Each of us loves to cook, we love to eat, I obsess about food and wine. We both enjoy scotch. I like to believe we are of the rare bread that sees the world of food from a different planet. I love all the fancy new, gastro scientific food, that costs googles of dollars, however, neither of us are swayed by external factors, the craziest flashiest food served on a slab of gold can be good, but it doesn’t have to be. These things are no guarantee. Conversely some of the best food in the world is served on the street believe it or not, served out of trucks and so on. So you can sleep at night knowing that we are not swayed by flash, or have only eaten out of dumpsters either, we have a good perspective of the food universe, but we are always wanting to try new things, and learn more. We like food that surprises.
If some people walk into an eatery they are compelled to find the nearest internet depository of nonsensical dribble (yelp) and take a verbal dump on said restaurant. Who are these people? Where do they come from? Do they think eating at Domino’s is eating real pizza? We on the other hand are all about the food, quality of ingredients, conveyance of flavors and culture. If we go somewhere on a regular basis and are treated poorly, well then it just becomes a game.
So if two bald guys walk into your place of business to eat, or if you see a black escalade parked in front of your food truck, it’s probably just us. Maybe we will say some nice things about you, maybe we will become obsessed, maybe… you will make “The List”.
Many of our eating adventures take place while working, or traveling for work, sometimes we have companions with us, often they are food opinionated as well, sometimes they are just there, but lucky for you, they are almost always funny.
Sometimes we go out of town and country to eat, this also provides material, sometimes we take out of towners out to eat here, again, more material.
When our list is published, if you think we are wrong, or missing something, well then by god you better let us know! Perhaps there is something out there for the next year’s list. Or not. Maybe you would like to be one of our writers for another city, or correspondence, again let us know.
